What Right Is

I live by the ocean-
laying out across and
splashing at the heavens
at the foot of the mountain-
at the firmament’s firmament
at her brown and bony ankle
at the lip of the sea-
voices spilling out all over
like so many worried dreamers

all the fish are singing to me
and the mountain sits beside me

and all the world is right with me
the thunderclap is right with me
the lightning strike is right with me

the howling wind, it whispers to me-
my song is the world
my song is for the world

there is a young lover there beside me
he means to court his fate
he speaks of work and utopia
he speaks of social illness
and we break bread and consider
the condition that in a generative and naturally peaceful world
our fathers have worn their crowns of authority
and wielded their mighty violent scepters
we count the abuses of open economy
we count the confiscation of meaningful objects
we confer and this is an endless task

and that is our brief time

there is more world with each moment
there is more that is the world

and this is our brief time
